Panelists on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program Wednesday slammed members of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration for posting "cute" tweets about payment from the government to keep Trump Tower safe following a bomb scare Tuesday afternoon. "It's just pathetic," the show's co-host, Willie Geist commented.

"It’s just sad that we’ve reached that point where there’s a bomb scare in the lobby and you Tweet something cute about it.”

On Tuesday, Trump Tower was briefly evacuated after a suspicious package was found. The package turned out to be a backpack full of toys, and after the emergency was over, incoming Trump press secretary Sean Spicer posted a tweet thanking the New York Police Department.

De Blasio's press secretary, Eric Phillips, in response, replied that New York will "send you the bill."  Trump's social media director, Dan Scavino Jr., also jumped on Phillips for his Tweet:

In return, Phillips chided Scavino:

"It’s embarrassing for the de Blasio administration," political correspondent Mike Barnicle commented on the Morning Joe program about the exchange.

Trump did not mention the exchange, or the bomb scare itself, on his own Twitter feed.

The mayor's office has already filed a $35 million bill to the federal government in hopes of recouping costs for protective services for Trump and his Manhattan building, which has been the center of his transition efforts. It's estimated that the cost, if not repaid, will amount to nearly $500,000 a day from New York's taxpayers.

Trump and his family live at the Trump Tower, but on Tuesday, they were at his Mar-a-Lago retreat in Florida.
