Indiana's Daniels Brings Austerity Message to CPAC

Signals continue to mount that Republican Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels will run for president in 2012. The latest: he’s scheduled to speak at the American Conservative Union’s vaunted Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Feb 11, a knowledgeable source tells Politico.

daniels,cpac,fiscal,austerityDaniels has kept to a lower profile than most other potential GOP presidential aspirants in recent months. But on Tuesday, he was featured in a front-page New York Times business-section column for his ideas about how to bring the economy back to health. The column, by David Leonhardt, notes that Daniels is one of the few politicians who can claim to have actually implemented fiscal austerity – in his home state of Indiana, which is weathering the economic storm much better than most other states.
