Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, confidently predicted Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed.
His remarks came during an interview on television’s "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday.
"This is somebody who is going to be confirmed," said Lee, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which opened hearings on Kavanaugh on Tuesday. "He’s going to be confirmed decisively – not without opposition from some Democrats in the Senate, of course. "But he’ll be confirmed nonetheless."
Lee defended the number of documents available to Democrats on Kavanaugh.
"First of all, we’ve gotten far more paperwork than has ever been produced in connection with any Supreme Court nominee – ever -- in our history," he said.
Lee noted Democrats want to push back the confirmation proceedings.
"They want a delay," he said. "They want to delay this as long as they possibly can, hoping they can somehow wrest control of the Senate in the November election. That’s not going to happen."
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. had tweeted on Monday: "Republicans know this has been the least transparent SCOTUS process in history and the hearings should be delayed until we can fully review Judge Kavanaugh’s records."
