Huckabee to Congress: 'Do Your Job,' Address DACA

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

The correct way to take action on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is through Congress, according to former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

"Get off your butts and do your job," Huckabee said, regarding Congress. "We say we have got to fix this, but we have got to do it the right way, else we become a nation of emotion, rather than a nation of law," Huckabee said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends."

A six-month window was set up when the program was rescinded Tuesday.

The DACA program gave temporary visas to people who were children when they were brought to the U.S. illegally.

The former Arkansas governor said that Congress should enact legislation, not the president through an executive order like former President Barack Obama did with DACA. "When we allow any branch of government, whether the executive, the judicial, or the legislative, to run amok, then we have destroyed our basic way of government and we're living in anarchy at that point," Huckabee said.

Reaction from other conservatives on rescinding DACA was mixed. "President Trump's decision to eliminate DACA is the wrong approach to immigration policy at a time when both sides of the aisle need to come together to reform our broken immigration system and secure the border," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
