Mike Huckabee says both Canada and Mexico have done a dramatic about-face over North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) following the election of Donald Trump as 45th president of the United States.

"Turns out Trump's election wasn't the only thing that experts assured us was impossible, but it happened anyway," Huckabee said Friday on his Facebook page.

Huckabee, who unsuccessfully ran against Trump for the GOP presidential bid and later endorsed him, added in a quip:

"Why didn't someone tell Washington about this 'bargaining' thing sooner?! Maybe the Pentagon wouldn't have spent all those years paying $400 apiece for toilet seats!"

The Texas Tribune reports that leaders of Canada and Mexico are hoping Trump will "soften his stance as campaign trail rhetoric cools." The billionaire real estate tycoon has referred to NAFTA as "the single worst trade deal."

"Keep calm and educate Donald Trump. That seems to be the mantra border leaders are adopting after realizing that the candidate who promised to renegotiate — or even eliminate — the North American Free Trade Agreement will be the country's next president," the newspaper said.
