Heritage's Gonzalez: Right GOP Message Can Win Hispanic Votes

By    |   Wednesday, 03 September 2014 05:05 PM

Conservatives have the ability to win over Hispanics and break the liberal monopoly on their votes — if they send the right message, says Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

"We conservatives who love this country ... immigrated to this country because of the liberty and the prosperity it offered," Gonzalez said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It'll be a shame if this country is changed into something that resembles Europe more. Conservatives have to react to what is being done and address Hispanics with a message of prosperity, opportunity, upward mobility, the American dream," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez —author of "A Race for the Future: How Conservatives Can Break the Liberal Monopoly on Hispanic Americans," published by Crown Forum — said the right must transform Hispanics into "agents for conserving traditional American values."

"I believe conservative policies work and they work for Hispanics," he said.
