Retired Army Gen. Michael Flynn has been made a "scapegoat" by the news media and the "old world order" in Washington, radio talk-show host Michael Savage said Tuesday.

"The old world order wants perennial friction with Russia," Savage told WND.

President Donald Trump asked for Flynn's resignation as national security adviser Monday amid concerns he was not completely forthcoming about conversations Flynn had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December.

Vice President Mike Pence told "Face the Nation" on CBS News on Jan. 15 that Flynn had not discussed sanctions the Obama administration had placed on Moscow in light of election-related hacking.

Pence made the assertion based on information Flynn had provided, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said.

Savage noted Tuesday the silence of the mainstream media in 2012 when President Barack Obama told outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on a live microphone his successor, Vladimir Putin, should allow him more "space" because Obama would have "more flexibility" to work with Moscow after his re-election later that year.

"Was there an outcry by the Lilliputians in the media then?" Savage asked.

"I see the demonization of Putin, Russia, and Flynn as part of a campaign by neocons, the intel community, and Democrats who want constant antagonism with Russia," he added. "It's like firemen who start fires to justify their jobs."
