Former congressman Dennis Kucinich on Thursday said former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was set up, the Boston Herald reports.

Flynn resigned amid revelations that he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about discussing sanctions with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

“When you look at the way the Flynn episode unfolded it’s very clear that his communications were taped, they were transcribed, they were given to the media with specific timing involved,” Kucinich said on the Boston Herald Radio’s “Adriana Cohen Show.”

“This was clearly a trap that was set for him.”

Kucinich also questioned the Washington Post’s connection with the CIA, saying the paper may have gained the intelligence documents on Flynn through owner Jeff Bezos’ connections while he was CEO of Amazon. Bezos bought the Post in 2013, the same year Amazon sealed a multimillion dollar contract with the CIA for cloud computing.

“I have a problem with The Washington Post having as a business partner the Central Intelligence Agency,” Kucinich said. “I’m not charging collusion by any means — but I’m saying this presents some questions that may relate to ethics and also national security.”

The media, he said, has also continued to make Russia’s ties with the U.S. election a story because “they’re just trying to … somehow make the American people believe that Russia is somehow running the United States of America.”

Kucinich also said President Donald Trump needed to polish his diplomatic skills when asked whether the intelligence agencies were looking for payback after comments Trump made during the transition period.

“There’s kind of a penchant for drama and a desire to let people know who’s in charge, which I don’t really think have to do as president,” said Kucinich. “He baited the intelligence community.”
