Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said Wednesday that Jeb Bush was "totally wrong" on his comments that Americans will be "betrayed" by Donald Trump's campaign promises.
"I don't know Jeb Bush. I've never met him. He's probably a nice guy — but he's totally wrong," Flynn, who is being vetted as a vice presidential choice by Trump, told Sandra Smith on Fox News.
"He's absolutely wrong."
the former Florida governor who dropped out of the 2016 race in February, told MSNBC on Monday that Trump's call for a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico and a ban on Muslims entering the country were all "like an alternative universe he created" — and that the "reality is that's not going to happen."
Flynn told Fox that "establishment" Republicans "really have to get a grip on what it is that they want for this country.
"Frankly, Donald Trump won the candidacy for the Republican Party," he said. "Let's get on board and help him win.
"That's really what this is about."
Turning to the vice presidential sweepstakes, Flynn said that he will be at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next week "one way or the other."
"It's an honor for me to be considered in this mix that is so important for our country," Flynn told Jake Tapper on CNN.
"I am absolutely humbled by it — but, yeah, I will be in Cleveland for sure."
He declined to say, however, whether Trump was close to a decision.
"You have to talk to the Trump campaign to find out where they're at," Flynn said. "This is going to be a big decision for Trump to make.
"It is critical — and I'm just honored to be in that mix."
