Michael Cohen had plans to run for mayor of New York City long before his offices were raided by the FBI in April, Axios reports.
"This is the beginning of a dynasty," Cohen reportedly told a group of people at Trump Tower on election night after Donald Trump had won the presidency.
When asked what he meant by dynasty, Cohen replied: "I've got the bug," adding, "Nobody's going to be able to f—k with us. I think I'm going to run for mayor."
Cohen is under investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan for his role in paying porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 before the election to keep her quiet about an affair she alleged to have with Trump.
Cohen told Axios he chose not to run but didn't give an explanation why.
"Despite many friends suggesting that I run for mayor... I obviously chose not to. Additionally, I believe that Mayor de Blasio is doing a fine job for our city."
