A new poll shows Republican Rep. Mia Love of Utah 6 points ahead of her Democratic opponent Ben McAdams in a new poll – but with a margin of error of 5 points, that makes the battle for The Beehive State's 4th District seat a virtual horse race.

The survey, conducted from June 11-18 by the Salt Lake Tribune and Hinckley Institute of Politics, asked 379 registered voters whether they wanted Love to win a third term or pass the torch to McAdams, who is mayor of Salt Lake City.

It found Love leading McAdams 45 percent to 39, with 8 percent favoring others, even though no one else is named on the ballot. Another 8 percent are undecided.

"Of the major races in the state, this continues to be the one that is the closest," Jason Perry, director of the nonpartisan Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah, told The Tribune. "And it is not moving in either direction yet."

Love, 42, is the first black female Republican elected to Congress and the first Haitian American elected to Congress from the state of Utah. McAdams, 43, a former member of the Utah State Senate, has been mayor of Salt Lake City since 2013.
