Sen. Merkley: Trump Must Resign Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

By    |   Tuesday, 12 December 2017 02:45 PM

President Donald Trump must be held to account for claims of sexual harassment, Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley said Tuesday.

"It's fundamental accountability. That’s what it boils down to,” Merkley said on CNN’s "New Day" morning program.

Since other politicians such as Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., have been called on to resign, the president should be required to be accountable as well, Merkley said.

“It’s just a horrendous list of treatment of women. This is why, if you called for Franken to step down, don’t you think it’s the right thing to also have the president to resign?” Merkley said.

On Monday, Merkley, D-Ore., and other senators called on Trump to resign over sexual misconduct allegations that a number of women have made against him.

On Tuesday, Merkley sent a tweet in support of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand after Trump tweeted that she “would do anything” for campaign contributions.
