President Donald Trump and his administration have been cooperative with special counsel Robert Mueller, White House Director of Strategic Communications Mercedes Schlapp said Friday, but The New York Times is continuing to "stir up these months' of old Russian conspiracy stories."

"As we continue to see, there's no evidence of collusion," Schlapp told Fox News. "The reality is that the president and this White House has been cooperative with the special counsel. And as we continue to see, there's no evidence of collusion. There's no evidence of wrongdoing."

Trump's White House has turned over more than 20,000 records and wants an expedited end to the investigation, Schlapp added.

Thursday night, the Times reported that Trump ordered Mueller to be fired last June, but backed off after White House counsel Don McGahn threatened to resign.

Schlapp said she has not yet spoken with Trump, who was in Davos, Switzerland as the article broke.

"We want to focus on the agenda of the America people and the American First agenda," said Schlapp. "That's one of the reasons why President Trump is over in Davos talking about the need for fair and reciprocal trade, talking about the need of global engagement and also explaining to these world leaders that the United States economic agenda is strong," said Schlapp.

Schlapp also commented on the president's unveiled blue print on immigration, emphasizing that his call for $25 billion for border security is a "trust fund that would allow to secure not only the southern border, but the northern border as well as provide the needed personnel and more importantly close the legal loophole, and this is about ending catch and release."
