First lady Melania Trump’s favorability is approaching 50 percent, according to a new Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday.

Trump has 49 a percent favorability rating among American voters, compared to 34 percent in mid-April.

"First lady Melania Trump might have the best favorability rating of anyone in or close to the White House, similar to Michelle Obama's favorability in 2010," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Trump made her first public appearance outside the White House on Monday after more than three weeks out of the public eye. The first lady was last seen publicly during the overnight hours of May 10 when she and President Donald Trump welcomed home three Americans who had been detained in North Korea.

Four days later, the White House announced she had undergone surgery to treat a benign kidney condition.

Other people close to Trump received negative favorability ratings, including Vice President Mike Pence (39 percent), White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (36) and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani (29 percent).

Thirty percent of Americans polled said they did not know enough about Melania Trump "to form an opinion of her."

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,223 voters from May 31-June 5 for the survey.
