Rep. Meadows: 'Hardened Criminals' Protected More Than Trump

By    |   Thursday, 10 October 2019 03:00 PM

"Hardened criminals" get more protection when they're facing legal issues than President Donald Trump is getting in his impeachment inquiry, Rep. Mark Meadows said Thursday, while calling for House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff to be removed from the probe.

"Hardened criminals have better protections than the president of the United States right now on the way that this investigation is being conducted," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is too partisan to act as a fair arbiter, said Meadows, and that's why she won't remove Schiff.

"She could actually change the jurisdiction back to where it should be," said Meadows. "She could have a vote on the House floor. She could give protections to the president."

Schiff, meanwhile, is "not a neutral arbiter," said Meadows, pointing out that he "made up" the conversation between Trump and Ukraine's president,

Meadows also noted that he had participated in the interview with former U.S. Envoy Kurt Volker's closed-door testimony, and said it's time to release the hearing's transcripts.

"This is all about politics," he said. "This is all about Adam Schiff trying to make sure that President Donald Trump doesn't get reelected."
