The lawyer for Donald McGahn asserted the White House counsel “did not incriminate” President Donald Trump during extensive interviews with special counsel Robert Mueller, The Washington Post reported.

According to the Post — which cited unnamed sources — McGahn attorney Bill Burck told Trump’s lawyers over the weekend that McGahn, during three long interviews since last November, didn’t say Trump engaged in any wrongdoing.

“He did not incriminate him,” Burck wrote in one email, the Post reported.

According to the Post, Mueller’s investigators have asked the White House counsel about the president’s private actions when he fired FBI Director James Comey, when he complained publicly that Attorney General Jeff Sessions failed to maintain control over the Russia probe, and when he suggested he might boot the probe’s supervisor, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

And Burck has assured Trump’s lawyers that McGahn didn’t witness Trump engaged in any crime — and would’ve resigned if he had, the news outlet reported.

Former Trump lawyer John Dowd debriefed both McGahn and his lawyer about the interview sessions, and they didn’t believe McGahn shared anything damaging, the Post reported.

But Dowd asked only for a broad assessment rather than specifics, the Post reported — and the White House appeared surprised by some details that later emerged, the Post reported.

Now, there’s little Trump’s lawyers don’t know about McGahn’s role in key events, the Post reported.
