Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., predicted a revised tax bill will be needed in six months to fix the mistakes in the legislation just passed by Congress, Axios is reporting.

Warner said the rush by Republicans to pass the bill before Christmas was largely responsible for creating problems that need to be repaired in a "fix it" bill.

His comments came during an Axios event on Thursday morning.

Warner said the bill "is probably the single most disappointing piece of legislation" in his time in the Senate.

"This is a huge missed opportunity which will come back to bite my Republican colleagues," he said.

Warner maintained the way GOP lawmakers handled the tax will make it even less likely Democrats will join them in pushing other legislation.

Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, also told Axios' Mike Allen, he was concerned by comments made by those close to President Donald Trump about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential election.

"Mike, I'm not suggesting anything other than the fact that the tone and tenor of the comments coming out of the president's allies both elected and otherwise should send a chill through all of us," he said.

On Wednesday, Warner urged his colleagues to speak out, The Washington Times reported.

"It is up to every member of this institution, Republican or Democrat to make a clear and unambiguous statement that any attempt by this president to remove special counsel Mueller from his position, or to pardon key witnesses in any effort to shield them from accountability, or to shut the investigation would be a gross abuse of power," he said in a speech on the Senate floor.
