Republicans may control the House and Senate, but Democrats are holding up a measure to fund the government and resolve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Rep. Mark Walker said Monday.

"Every time we get close, it feels like [House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi and [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer move that line," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News "America's Newsroom" co-host Sandra Smith. "It feels like they will trend more this direction and even threatening a potential government shutdown."

Walker said he "certainly" blames Democrats for the holdup on the funding.

"We want to continue to make sure our tone and language is appropriate," said Walker. "The truth is simply the truth. It was Chuck Schumer who just said a few years ago that shutting down the government would be ludicrous ... the Republicans have continued to move, even authoring a legalized pathway, as long as it included border security and ended the chain migration. We saw a terrorist come through off this program."

Walker said Republicans would like for Democrats to go back to the position they had held before, "where they were okay with completing the border wall and offering more security agents as well as more surveillance."

However, Democrats "continue to move the goalpost," even though Republicans were willing to come to the bargaining table, said Walker.

"We've negotiated and compromised on several of these issues that are important to the American people," he said. "It feels like the Democrats say it's our way or the highway. Much more politics in Washington, D.C."

Walker added that he does not think President Donald Trump has changed his mind when it comes to getting a deal, and he agrees with the president's contention that Democrats want to take money from the military.

"He's completely spot on when it comes to our military and defense," said Walker. "Over half of the Navy planes and jets do not fly because of deferred maintenance. We haven't been keeping them updated because of the cost. We put it in other different programs. I've stood in empty silos in Alaska were missiles should be, in order to thwart any kind of ballistic missiles that come in our direction. We've completely gutted the military and reinvested those taxpayer dollars in other places. If the Democrats are willing to shut down the government in a very crucial time dealing with Iran and North Korea, it would be a fatal mistake."
