President-elect Joe Biden's plans to cancel many of outgoing President Donald Trump's border security policies and to stop border wall construction will be "detrimental to this country," acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan said Tuesday.

"If you take away the ideological, hyperbolic false narrative that's out there, that infrastructure works, along with technology and personnel," Morgan said to Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo on "Mornings With Maria." "Our borders are more secure and our country is more secure. That's a fact. You stop building that, it's going to be absolutely part of a dangerous policy that's in place and our country will be less safe because of it."

Trump is traveling to Alamo, Texas, on Tuesday and is expected to deliver a speech to highlight his administration's efforts on immigration and the border wall.

"It's more than just the border wall, it's more than technology, it's much more than physical tools we need to secure our borders," Morgan said. "It's also effective politics and authorities. That's what concerns me as well as making a statement that they're going to stop building the wall. President-elect Biden said he's going to do away with everything that's been done in this administration to address the crisis."

That will amount to an open border strategy, and the "cartels and smugglers [are] already exploiting that," said Morgan. "Numbers are going up because immigrants are being told that the borders on Jan. 20 will be open once again."

Meanwhile, the cooperation between the United States, Mexico, and Central America has been "unprecedented and historic" and led to agreements addressing the border as a "regional crisis."

"Border security matters," he said. "Drugs are pouring in that killed 60,000 people, criminal aliens and illegal aliens are coming across, having a devastating economic impact to the country. It's all of that. Borders matter. And we have to secure our borders and I'm concerned that the new administration coming in, their policies are open border strategies and it's going to be detrimental to this country."
