Former acting FBI DIrector Andrew McCabe isn't a credible witness, but lawmakers need to hear more testimony from him, House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows said Friday.
"I can tell you not only was he fired for lying, but he was part of a process, a covert process within the FBI to continue an investigation on Donald Trump even before and after the election," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
The matter comes down to just "eight days in May," Meadows added, referring to the period of time after Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey. "Andy McCabe at others at the DOJ and FBI wanted to get rid of this president and plotted to do just that."
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has denied McCabe's claims that attempts had been made to remove Trump from office, and about asking if he should wear a wire while speaking with Trump, but Meadows said neither person can be believed.
"We know enough of the facts and I take whatever Andy McCabe says with a grain of salt because over and over and over again he has given false testimony to some of his FBI people," said Meadows. "Here is the other thing. He is now the third witness to come forward and say that Rod Rosenstein actually did plan to do this. So we've had testimony here on Capitol Hill from two other witnesses that would suggest what Andy McCabe is talking about actually is true."
