Rep. Greene: Staying on Committees Is 'a Waste of My Time'

By    |   Friday, 05 February 2021 11:59 AM

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Friday that lawmakers who stripped her of her committee seats also stripped her Georgia constituents of representation in work on the nation's budget.

At the same time, the first-term Republican member of Congress said she is "fine" with being kicked off the Education and Labor and Budget committees because that gives her time to spend building support from people who want to "put America first."

"I'm fine with being kicked off my committees because it would have been a waste of my time," Greene during an extensive press conference on Capitol Hill.

"I'm a very hard worker and I'm proud of it. So now I have a lot of free time on my hands, which means I can talk to a whole lot more people all over this country and I can talk to more people and make connections and build a huge amount of support that I've already got started from people that want to put America first."

She added that her district voted her in because she is a successful business owner who knows how to make a profit, but now they will lose her voice on Capitol Hill during committee meetings to determine the nation's business.

Members of the House Thursday voted 230-199, with 11 Republicans siding with the Democrats, to remove Greene from the Education and Labor and Budget committees over comments she made on social media supporting QAnon theories in 2018.

Greene also called it "hypocritical" to kick her off the committees over her comments on social media when people are still "devastated" over the protests of the past year.

Further, she lobbed attacks at the media, even though she said she truly supports the freedom of the press, and at one point chastised a CNN reporter for asking her if she was sorry for her comments, asking her if she was sorry about the "Russian hoax" concerning former President Donald Trump.

"I really hope that you will be able to tell my story a little bit better instead of just reporting and repeating maybe some things that you don't like about me or things that were on social media in 2018," said Greene, admitting later that she was "sorry for saying all those things that are wrong and offensive and I sincerely mean that. I think it's good to say when we've done something wrong."

She also accused the government of failing Americans, with the deficit approaching $30 trillion, and railed against funding abortion, "a sin, a disgusting evil that is unfathomable ... I really hope that America can end the evil of abortion."

She also touched on gun control, repeating comments she'd made on the House floor about having been in school at a time when there was a shooting and insisting that if schools were not gun-free zones, children would be more protected.

Greene also declared that the GOP is still the party of Trump, and that it "doesn't belong to anybody else."

"He was a president that wanted every single person to achieve and that's why we supported him," she said. "This impeachment trial that is going to happen next week is a circus. It is a circus that allows media companies to get lots of clicks, lots of views, and sell ad dollars ... he did not cause this attack on the Capitol nor did I, nor did any Republican. The responsibility falls squarely on those that invaded the Capitol. The ones that planned it ahead of time. Those are the people that should be held accountable."

She also attacked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, accusing her of having "faked her outrage with just another hoax" about her fears during the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol. Greene accused Ocasio-Cortez of "dividing our Congress" with her remarks .
