Margolies-Mezvinsky Could Be Latest Comeback Kid

Former Democratic Rep. Marjorie Margolies looks likely to be the latest former member of Congress to try to make a comeback.

Her long-time campaign manager Ken Smukler last week started "Marjorie 2014," a political action committee on her behalf. Smukler managed her campaigns in 1992 and 1994.

Margolies — then known as Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky — represented Pennsylvania’s 13th District (Montgomery County) for a single term and cast the deciding vote in the House in favor of the Clinton tax hike in 1993.

Margolies is now divorced from former Rep. Edward Mezvinksy of Iowa. Their son Marc is married to Chelsea Clinton.

She is expected to formally announce for the seat of Democratic Rep. Allyson Schwartz, who is running for governor. So far, the Democratic field includes state Sen. Daylin Leach, state Rep. Brendan Boyle, and physician Valerie Arkoosh.

Nine former members of the House — two Republicans, seven Democrats — made successful comeback attempts in 2012. And former Republican Reps. Bobby Schilling of Illinois and Ann Marie Buerkle of New York, both of whom were elected as "tea partiers" in 2010 and defeated in the Democratic tide two years later, are seeking comebacks in 2014.
