Marc Molinaro, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in New York, knocked Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the release of a cop killer.
Molinaro made his remarks during an Monday appearance on television’s “Fox & Friends.”
Police officer Joseph Piagentini was tortured and shot 22 times in 1971. His partner, Waverly Jones was shot in the head, according to the Daily News.
Herman Bell, who had served 45 years behind bars, was paroled in March. Another man involved in the shooting is currently up before the parole board.
“To have the governor pardon them is a slap in the face of law enforcement,” Molinaro said. He has made a mockery of democracy. At the end of the day, he has said to law enforcement all across the state of New York that he doesn’t have their back. I will. If you kill a cop, you stay in jail. That’s the way it should be.”
In a statement read by Fox News, Cuomo said the parole board is independent of the governor and that he disagreed with the release.
