President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort is not only in trouble with U.S. authorities but is also under investigation in Ukraine for allegedly earning larger sums than he previously reported as a political consultant there, USA Today reported on Tuesday.

Manafort was paid at least an additional $16 million more than the $12.5 million he reported last year, according to a source knowledgeable about the probe in Ukraine.

He reportedly received the money from funds controlled by the Party of the Regions, which was a pro-Kremlin political base for Ukraine's former President Viktor Yanukovych, who fled to Russia in 2014.

According to the Ukrainian report, Manafort received at least $600,000 a month over four years until 2014 while he was working for Yanukovych. Ukrainian authorities say there were possibly other funds being funneled to Manafort that the investigation there identified.

Manafort worked as Trump's presidential campaign manager from May until August 2016.

While he was running Trump's campaign, the Republican Party changed the language in its manifesto concerning the situation in Ukraine by removing clauses that reflected an anti-Russian sentiment, the BBC reported.

This change was allegedly done at the behest of two Trump campaign representatives.

Manafort resigned as Trump's campaign manager in August following reports about his previous work for Ukrainian businessmen who supported Russian interests.

Manafort did not return calls for comment about the alleged additional money he received to serve Russia's interests in Ukraine, but has previously denied the charges, saying that entries in the ledgers in the Ukrainian probe are forgeries.
