The speaker of the Maine House of Representatives says she's removing a fellow Democrat from his committee assignments after he posted a threatening comment about President Donald Trump on Facebook.
Speaker Sara Gideon says Rep. Scott Hamann's comment was "inexcusable and unacceptable." She says she is removing him from service on the Health and Human Services Committee and the Marijuana Legalization Implementation Committee.
Hamann, of South Portland, has apologized for his post Tuesday in which he said Trump is a "half-term president, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet."
Maine GOP Executive Director Jason Savage says removing the lawmaker from committees was a first step but doesn't go far enough. He said it is merely a response to public outcry over the post.
