Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., took to Twitter on Monday to thank his supporters for extending best wishes after surgery to remove part of his lung that was damaged in an attack by a neighbor in 2017.
"Thanks to friends and supporters for wishing me a speedy recovery after my surgery," Paul, 56, in his second term, said in the post. "While I originally had to cancel many of my events for August recess, my recovery is coming along better than expected, so I'll see many of you across Kentucky very soon!"
Paul, who is expected to return to the Senate next month after the August recess, was tackled by Paul Rene Boucher in November 2017 in a dispute over lawn maintenance.
The senator was wearing noise-canceling headphones while mowing his lawn outside his Bowling Green home — and Boucher blindsided him in the attack.
Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress.
Paul later sued Boucher — and a jury awarded the senator more than $580,000 in damages and medical expenses after a three-day trial.
