Rep. Louie Gohmert: Special Counsel Agents 'Oozing Hatred for Trump'

Members of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe are extremely opposed to President Donald Trump, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, said Thursday.

"So many on the special task force, the special counsel's force aren't just biased, they are oozing hatred for Trump out of every pore," Gohmert told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"Those of us that used to try lawsuits in front of juries, you go through jury selection to make sure that nobody as biased as these people get anywhere near being the justice for your client," Gohmert said, about seeing politically charged texts from Peter Strzok, the FBI agent who was removed from the counsel team.

The texts were exchanged between top FBI employees in 2016 who appeared to be unhappy about then-candidate Trump possibly winning the presidency, according to CNN.

Gohmert said the public disclosure of the texts was the reason the agents were removed, not their biases.

"These guys were hand picked by Mueller. And I would submit humbly, the reason that they were knocked off this special counsel force was not because they were biased. He had to know how biased they were… The reason they were kicked off is because their absolute hate came out in things like these text messages," Gohmert told Fox News.

"As long as the public didn't know how much hatred there was on the special counsel force for the president, it was OK."

The congressman noted one text that mentioned an "insurance policy" if Trump won the election. "That can only mean one thing: They have got to take him out if he does survive the election," Gohmert said.

Gohmert and "Fox & Friends" host Steve Doocy noted that Trump could declassify a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) warrant from 2016 that would provide more details.

"I know the president would love to do that, but people would probably freak out if the president went in and declassified those things," Gohmert said.

"I'm sure the president has heard from these 'career attorneys' like (acting attorney general Rod) Rosenstein. 'Oh, let's don't do that.' He needs to do it, he really does," Gohmert said.
