The House Judiciary Committee must obtain the transcripts from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court that issued the warrant for surveillance of Carter Page, the former Trump campaign adviser, Rep. Louie Gohmert wrote in a column for The Daily Caller.

"The very existence of a secret court has come into question. The creation of such a court that allows the federal government to obtain secret warrants to spy on American citizens has long been a concern for civil liberty defenders," the Texas Republican wrote.

The memo released by the House Intelligence Committee shows that "Fourth Amendment protections are illusory, especially if you're connected with the Trump presidential campaign," Gohmert wrote.

"It is absolutely imperative that we ascertain whether or not there was any legitimate, independent and untainted evidence to justify the court's warrant," Gohmert wrote.

The warrant was given "without an adequate basis for its reliability," Gohmert wrote, referring to allegations that the warrant for surveillance of Page was based on information in an unverified dossier compiled by ex-spy Christopher Steele.

Gohmert said the House Judiciary Committee and Congress must serve as "monitor and guardian" over federal courts.

"Our Congress is the creator of every single federal court except for the Supreme Court," Gohmert wrote, and "if a court under our purview is inadequate for the task it was assigned, we must act to fix the system."

The House Intelligence Committee will ask the court for transcripts this week, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the chairman of the committee, said Monday on Fox News.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., on Tuesday said the FISA court did have basis for issuing the warrant for surveillance of Page, because it was presented with a "voluminous" amount of evidence.
