Rep. Gohmert: Comey's 'Hypocrisy Just Knows No Bounds'

Former FBI Director James Comey's "hypocrisy just knows no bounds," and it appears he has been "after" President Donald Trump for some time, Rep. Louie Gohmert said Friday morning.

"He said, 'Loretta Lynch told me to lie and I didn't write that down,'" the Texas Republican and House Freedom Caucus member told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"'But I wrote down Trump's stuff because I was afraid he might lie.' I mean, the hypocrisy just knows no bounds. It's incredible."

It was also a dramatic turn of events when Comey, who was "head of the FBI while the Obama administration prosecuted more leakers than all the other administrations put together," turned out to be a "leaker in chief," Gohmert continued.

On Thursday, during his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey revealed he'd leaked his notes on his meetings with Trump to the media, through a friend at Columbia University, to prompt the naming of a special prosecutor to lead the Russia probe.

Gohmert on Friday also complained about Congress' decision to "go dark" the day after Comey's testimony, which means Republicans are "basically leaving the president to dangle."

"Well, we were supposed to be in session today and that helps change the message back to what we're doing," the lawmaker said.

"We passed a great bill yesterday that's going to save community banking and quit the bailout of the big banks, too big to fail," he continued.

"But Tuesday, apparently, our leadership changed the week's scheduling and said let go dark on Friday, which means the emphasis will not be on what we're doing good in Washington."

Gohmert said he is concerned that Republicans are not being supportive enough, and, as Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., pointed out "the only thing that didn't leak was the truth, that [Trump] was not under investigation."

Comey was also not honest and truthful when he testified he was intimidated being in the Oval Office alone with Trump, said Gohmert.

"Thank God he fired him," said Gohmert of Trump and Comey.

"The more we find out, this guy needed to go. He was a problem. He had no problem with Loretta Lynch telling him to lie, misrepresent the truth, but oh my goodness, let's do what we can to hurt Trump. He needed to go."
