President Donald Trump said during a rally Sunday night that Democrat Joe Biden would "listen to the scientists" and institute more coronavirus-related lockdowns if he wins the election.
The Hill reported that Trump made the remarks in Carson City, Nevada.
"He'll listen to the scientists," Trump said. "If I listened totally to the scientists, we would right now have a country that would be in a massive depression — instead, we're like a rocket ship. Take a look at the numbers."
Biden, Trump said, is "gonna want to lockdown" to help contain COVID-19, which has infected 8.3 million Americans and killed more than 224,000 since the start of this year.
A member of Biden's campaign hit back in a statement, saying the former vice president would be a job creator.
"This is tellingly out of touch and the polar opposite of reality," Andrew Bates tweeted. "Trump crashed the strong economy he inherited from the Obama-Biden Administration by lying about and attacking the science, and layoffs are rising. Meanwhile, Joe Biden would create millions more jobs than Trump."
The Hill reported that Trump also claimed "the Christmas season will be canceled" if Biden wins.
"Look, remember I said we're going to bring back Christmas? The name. Remember? We brought it back. Remember?" Trump asked.
"They'd say, 'Have a great season.' I say, 'No, I don't want to have a great season. I want to say Merry Christmas. Say Merry Christmas.' Now, they're all saying 'Merry Christmas.'"
