GOP Senators Demand Timeline of Austin's Medical Absence

By    |   Wednesday, 10 January 2024 08:08 PM EST

Republicans are demanding that the Pentagon give a detailed timeline of events connected to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's "incapacitation" and hospitalization following complications from prostate surgery, The Hill reported on Wednesday.

GOP members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, led by its senior member Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, sent a letter to Austin on Wednesday making the demands and slamming his statement last week taking full responsibility for failing to provide adequate notification of his absence as "insufficient."

"We are deeply troubled by the apparent breakdown in communications between your office and the rest of the Department of Defense, the White House, and Congress over the past two weeks," they wrote, adding that the failure to immediately inform the president, Congress, and the comptroller general of the United States of the medical emergency violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
