House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has proven Democrats are uninterested in negotiating an end to a partial government shutdown, Chair of the House GOP Conference Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said Sunday.
In an interview on NBC's "Meet The Press," Rep. Cheney lashed out at Pelosi's preemptive rejection of President Donald Trump's deal to break the impasse.
"For her to just simply reject out of hand when the president actually has said, 'let's look at ways we can come closer,' it shows you they're just not interested in negotiating," she said.
"Speaker Pelosi has said she will be a champion of the Dreamers. So, when she's willing to play games, when she's willing to pull political stunts, but she's not actually willing to come up with solutions, that makes it very difficult to come to an agreement here," she added.
"The responsible thing for the Democrats to do is put a counteroffer on the table if you don't like this one."
Cheney maintained Trump's deal offering an extension for those protected by Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in exchange for $5.7 billion to build a border wall isn’t amnesty.
"What the president has done is say, absolutely, our first and most important obligation is to secure the border," she said. "And the fact that the Democrats are talking about 'let's have open borders, abolish ICE,' they say they're for border security . . . but they're not willing to provide $1 for for it. It's a purely partisan game."
