Liz Cheney's Daughters Tout Family's Wyoming Roots

Wyoming Republican Senate candidate Liz Cheney released a new ad Monday featuring her three daughters, who highlight the family's deep roots in the Cowboy State, the website Talking Points Memo reported.

The commercial is an attempt to quell critics who charge she and her family recently moved to Wyoming to run for the Senate seat. The $40,000 ad, which will air all week, ends with Liz Cheney approving the message as she stands among all five of her children and her husband.

The ad airs just a week after a nasty family feud erupted in public over the issue of same-sex marriage. Liz Cheney's sister Mary is a lesbian married to her partner.

The senatorial candidate, speaking on "Fox News Sunday" earlier this month, said she loves "Mary very much, I love her family very much. This is just an issue on which we disagree." In August, Mary Cheney in a Facebook post said Liz Cheney was "dead wrong" on the issue of gay marriage.

The new political ad is narrated by Kate, Grace and Elizabeth Cheney. It focuses on the Cheney family that settled in the state in 1852.

"We're proud of our family's deep roots in Wyoming," says the oldest daughter, Kate, a college sophomore. "Our family first came here in 1852, walking the Mormon Trail."

"My great-great-grandfather first settled in Fremont County in 1907," says Grace, the youngest.

"He and our great-great-grandmother both moved to the Salt Creek oil fields, where they raised their five children," says Elizabeth, the middle daughter. "One of their children, our great-grandmother, was the first female deputy sheriff of Natrona County."

"We're proud of our grandma and our grandpa," adds Grace, voicing over a photo of her grandfather, Dick Cheney. "He was vice president of the United States."

"And we're very proud of our mom, who is running for the United States Senate," Kate says.

Liz Cheney is challenging fellow Republican Sen. Mike Enzi in Wyoming's GOP primary.
