Sen. Lindsey Graham called his trip to Israel last week "the most unnerving" he's had in awhile while warning of a "really bloody" war in the Middle East.
"This was the most unnerving trip I've had in awhile," Graham told reporters in the Capitol on Tuesday, the Washington Examiner reported.
At issue are the Iran-backed terrorist groups — including Hezbollah — stockpiling weapons and troops along two of Israel's borders.
"Any time you leave a meeting where the major request is 'ammunition, ammunition, ammunition,' that's probably not good," Graham said. "I just want to tell y'all that when the war comes — if it does come, and I hope it doesn't — it's going to be really bloody."
Complicating matters is Russia's involvement in helping Iranian forces spread in Syria in support of the government's beating down the ongoing civil war.
"Russia and Iran in combination pose a significant threat to our vital ally, Israel, and to Jordan," said Democratic Sen. Chris Coons, who made the trip with Graham.
"And, in the absence of the United States, I think we'd pretty quickly see the Assad regime, Iranian forces, and Russia dominating virtually all of Syria," Coons said.
