President Donald Trump is "demanding his day in court," and is "mad as hell" that Democrats would deny him, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Thursday.
In an interview with Fox News' "Special Report," the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee derided the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's delay of sending the chamber's impeachment case to the Senate.
"The most obvious explanation is they have buyer's remorse, they don't know what to do," he said of the Democrat-led effort. "There's the assumption that impeachment would sell with the American people. It's falling apart. They have no case. They don't know what to do next. This is a political stunt that's dangerous."
"I just met with the president, and he's demanding his day in court," Graham continued. "Every American accused of a crime or wrongdoing gets their day in court. Apparently except Donald Trump. And if you believe that [the President Bill] Clinton impeachment trial was fair, that's exactly the same type of trial that would happen in the Senate with President Trump."
Graham said he had been with Trump just before the interview.
"He's mad as hell that they would do this to him," he said of the House vote. "And now deny him his day in court. The reason they're denying his day in court is because they know their case sucks."
