Nearly two-thirds of South Carolina voters want veteran GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham to just say no to a 2016 White House run, a new poll shows.

The Winthrop Poll, released Wednesday, finds Graham’s approval rating among Republicans at a solid 60 percent, but only 34 percent said he should compete for the Oval Office, and  56.5 percent said he should stay out of the race altogether.

Among registered voters, 65.3 percent said Graham shouldn't run, while only 26 percent gave him the thumbs up. Among all respondents, 28 percent said he should go for it, while 60.2 percent said he shouldn't.

Graham was unswayed.

"When you look at every candidate, I don’t think a lot of Democrats want me to run at home," he told Politico. "We’re still hanging in there."

Graham went to Iowa last month to explore the possibility of a run for the presidency.

"What compels me to run is that I’ve never been more worried about our nation and the threats we face at home and abroad, and we’re running out of time to deal with these threats.," he told the Des Moines Register, Politico reports.

Among registered voters, the poll's margin of error is 3.4 percentage points. The margin of error for Republican voters is 4.6 percentage points.
