Sen. Graham: 'Can't Beat Him on Law,' So Dems 'Destroy His Life'

(Fox News' "Hannity")

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., lashed out at Senate Democrats for their low-blow opposition to Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh — saying they "can't beat him on the law."

The sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh was suspiciously timed, Graham told Fox News' "Hannity."

"They can't beat him on the law, so they are trying to destroy his life," Graham said. "There has been a pattern of Democrats in [the Senate Judiciary Committee] to take the words out of context and try to accuse him of things he had nothing to do with.

"The last straw is this allegation that came about last Thursday . . . Why didn't they do that before?"

He said he welcomes a hearing Monday with both Kavanaugh and his accuser, California professor Christine Blasey Ford.

"Kavanaugh . . . will get his day in court, as well as Ms. Ford, and I will look at everything in judge Kavanaugh 's life, not just this accusation," he said. "And I feel good about it."

"If Ms. Ford never intended to come forward, or never planned to come forward, why did she pay for a polygraph in August, and why did she hire a lawyer in August if she never intended to do what she is doing?" he added.

Ford told her story to The Washington Post on Sunday, accusing Kavanaugh of drunkenly pinning her to a bed one summer while they were in high school in the 1980's, and groping her. Kavanaugh denies the allegation.
