Lewandowski: 'Great Deal-Maker' Trump Will Push on Repeal Bill

President Donald Trump is a "great deal-maker" and legislation to repeal Obamacare is "very, very close" to happening, former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Wednesday.

"There are a couple tweaks that need to happen to bring Sen. Mike Lee from Utah on board," Lewandowski told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"Look, it's been publicly reported that there are probably two Republican U.S. Senators who aren't going to support the bill, Sen. Rand Paul from Kentucky and Sen. Susan Collins from Maine. You don't necessarily need them if you get everybody else and you put Mike Pence in the chair and he breaks the tie. I think this bill is going to get done."

Trump is planning a lunch with senators on Wednesday, Lewandowski said, and he believes the president is "probably going to close the deal today. If that's the case, this bill moves forward."

Paul, however, has said he favors the repeal measure, but not the replacement bill. The three GOP senators who have already said they will not vote for a repeal bill are Collins, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

Paul told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday that he probably will vote for a clean repeal.

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, also is voicing doubts about repealing Obamacare without a replacement measure, telling reporters Tuesday that he does not think that would be "appropriate." However, he has not said yet that he'd vote against a clean repeal measure.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has called for a vote on the repeal measure next week, but it's also unclear whether Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain will return to Washington in time for the vote. He is currently in Arizona recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot in his head.

But Lewandowski told Fox News that Trump will close the deal, and said his source for it is that he knows the president is a "great dealmaker."

Show co-anchor Ainsley Earhardt asked Lewandowski if he thinks the people who said they would vote against repealing Obamacare are "closet Democrats" and if they are "on a mission to make sure that the president doesn't succeed," but he disagreed.

Instead, he said, they wanted to see "specific things in the bill that aren't there yet, but it's getting very close," and as for the repeal bill, he believes the three or four who say they are against it "want to get to a yes and want to help the president's agenda."

Lewandowski also disagreed with Fox News' Charles Krauthammer, who said Trump has not been working hard enough on a national level to get Obamacare repeal and replace legislation through.

"I think the president and his team are working hard to get this done," said Lewandowski. "Here is what he said: if they can't get this bill done, you will see what will happen when Obamacare collapses."

Lewandowski also commented on the controversy concerning Trump's second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a dinner at the recent G-20 summit.

"Our best representative, [First Lady Melania Trump], who is stunningly beautiful and incredibly intelligent, sat next to Vladimir Putin at the request of the German chancellor," said Lewandowski.

"She had a conversation with Vladimir Putin. He was her dinner partner for a few hours. Big deal. And do you know what the president did? Our president? He got up and he walked over and he saw his beautiful wife, the first lady of the United States and he had a conversation with her."

Also, he said, there was nothing secret about the president's conversation with Putin, as there were at least 40 other people around.

"The president said it a hundred times," said Lewandowski. "I don't understand why I have enemies all around the world. Let's make friends for a change."
