Rep. Zeldin: Ukraine President Confirms Trump Acted Properly

By    |   Thursday, 10 October 2019 01:56 PM

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's comments denying that President Donald Trump sought to blackmail him further confirm that nothing improper took place during their phone call in July or in a later meeting, Rep. Lee Zeldin said Thursday.

"President Trump did not mention on that call any quid pro quo or hold on aid," the New York Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Zelenskiy met with Ambassador Kurt Volker in Ukraine the day after the call. In that meeting, there was no reference to quid pro quo and hold on aid."

However, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., is "cherry-picking information" while withholding key facts," said Zeldin.

He added that there has been no light on why the whistleblower had been in touch with Schiff and his staff before the report was submitted.

"They're the ones that advised them to file the complaint and hire an attorney," said Zeldin. "But then, when Adam Schiff was asked, have you been in contact with the whistleblower, he said no...he lied about that."

Former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, who was recalled in May, is the next person to testify, and four more interviews are scheduled, said Zeldin, but he does not know if they are going to take place.

"Republicans will be there ready to ask questions and to make sure that the public is getting the rest of the story that Adam Schiff will cherry-pick out," said Zeldin.

Zeldin also defended Trump's decision to pull remaining troops out of northern Syria, saying he made it out of love for the military, but Turkey must be given a strong message that they can't go in and wipe out the Kurds or target women, children and civilians.
