President Donald Trump is indeed taking "a look" at an acquisition of Greenland from Denmark, despite public mockery of the idea, according to White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow.

"The president, who knows a thing or two about buying real estate, wants to take a look at a Greenland purchase," Kudlow told "Fox News Sunday."

President Trump has reportedly weighed buying Greenland as a strategic acquisition amid the melting of the Arctic and the uncovering of valuable new land, potentially economically and militarily.

"Denmark owns Greenland; Denmark is an ally; Greenland is a strategic place up there," Kudlow told host Dana Perino. "They've got a lot of valuable minerals."

China has made the world's largest island a point of interest, too, perhaps sparking President Trump's own interest amid trade-war tensions, according to the South China Morning Post.

"It's an interesting story," Kudlow said. "It's developing. We're looking at it."

After Greenland foreign minister Ane Lone Bagger declared "we are open for business, but we are not for sale," Gov. Steve Bullock, D-Mont., has seized on the lack of seriousness of the reports, starting the website IsGreenlandForSale.com and using it to cull donations to his Democratic presidential primary campaign.
