President Donald Trump should "say as little as possible" about the indictments handed out to his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, according to political analyst Larry Sabato.

"The president is convinced that there was no collusion," the University of Virginia professor said on Fox News' "Happening Now" on Monday. Trump "feels that pretty strongly" and "has pleaded it out."

He added that he's sure that the lawyers have told him to say as little as possible and that "if he says as little as possible" then Trump would be in a "much better position than he would be otherwise."

Sabato also addressed former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos being charged with lying to the FBI, saying that since the aide was under 30 at the time it's "hard to believe that he had that much influence or was that senior," and admitting that he'd "never heard of him before."

Host Jon Scott then mentioned Trump's poor results in the latest Fox News poll, which put his approval rating under 40 percent, and his disapproval rating at almost 60 percent.

"They are not good numbers," Sabato said, noting that "a thousand things can happen between" now and the next presidential election, and that "a number of Trump supporters do not talk to pollsters."
