President Donald Trump's "Tax Cuts 2.0" will roll out in just enough time to remind Americans that the House needs to return to Republican leadership, which will go to work for them, Rep. Lance Gooden said Monday.

"The president doesn't just wake up one morning and throw a plan out there," the Texas Republican told Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria." "We will see this in September, right around campaign season and Election Day, when it's important for the American people to know they have a very distinct choice."

Last week, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow confirmed that Trump wants his tax cut plan, which will include a 10% cut for middle-class taxpayers, rolled out by September.

Gooden said Democrats from swing states will be "on the ropes" in November, making them willing to compromise.

The SALT deduction, or the provision that allows state and local taxes to be deducted from federal tax returns, could also come into play as part of the compromise, Gooden agreed, although he finds it "hard to feel sorry for the states that are just raising taxes and raising taxes" and he thinks the deduction will face "more vocal opposition."

He also said he does not expect House Democrats to back off from pursuing additional investigations against Trump, now that the impeachment trial and acquittal have taken place.

"They thought an impeached president would be someone that couldn't recover," said Gooden. "They didn't take into consideration that once acquitted, always acquitted, and this president is more popular than he's ever been."
