President Donald Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner traveled to North Carolina Thursday night to help raise money for Rep. Mark Meadows, who chairs the House Freedom Caucus.

Politico reports Kushner attended a fundraiser for Meadows in his 2018 re-election bid.

The White House's involvement in the race is noteworthy for several reasons, one being the fact that the House Freedom Caucus has disagreed with Trump and Republican congressional leaders on issues such as healthcare. Trump even called out Meadows in May about his opposition to one of the GOP's healthcare bills.

Politico reports, however, that Kushner and Meadows have talked about Israel — a topic both men have an interest in.

Kushner has traveled to the Middle East on multiple occasions this year as he tries to help the peace process.

The Citizen-Times reported this week that Meadows tried to convince Trump to keep White House chief strategist Steve Bannon on his staff before Bannon ended up resigning two weeks ago.

Meadows' ultra-conservative Freedom Caucus has around three dozen members and carries a significant amount of clout, so the White House will need to keep communication open with the group as Trump and the GOP try to advance their agenda in the legislative branch.

Kushner's attendance at the fundraiser may signal that the 36-year-old could serve as a conduit between Meadows and Trump moving forward.
