Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, slammed Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser for a reported push to evict National Guard troops deployed to the city over the George Floyd protests, calling her arguments "ridiculous."

"In essence, what she would be saying is she would have the National Guard stay in tents or maybe at the Super 8 in Virginia because this hotel is too nice, and it's ridiculous," the Illinois Republican said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

His comments come after Sen. Mike Lee told Fox News and tweeted Thursday that Bowser was planning to evict at least 1,2000 from the city's hotels, after clashing with President Donald Trump over his handling of the protests and speaking out against the need to bring federal troops into Washington D.C.

Lee told The Salt Lake Tribune that Bowser carried out the plans, throwing Utah National Guard members and troops out of a Marriott hotel near downtown Washington.

Bowser did not comment to the Tribune about the story but responded to Lee on Twitter that until the troops are recalled, they are in local hotels, but "DC residents cannot pay their hotel bills. The Army can clear that up with the hotel today, and we are willing to help."

Kin said the move by Bowser cannot be justified under the Constitution’s Third Amendment prohibiting a homeowner from having to host troops without consent.

"She doesn't have to have the National Guard or the military in her home . . . even if the city owns the hotel, that's a hotel," explained Kinzinger. "That's a hotel that signs a contract with the National Guard. Has nothing to do with quartering in the Third Amendment."
