Taking a pause from his own criticisms of President Donald Trump, Gold Star father Khizr Khan briefly asked for the public to stop playing "political football" with the Gold Star families and U.S. condolences for our fallen soldiers before issuing his own criticism of Gold Star Gen. John Kelly.

"In two words: Dignity and restraint," Khan told CBS host John Dickerson on Sunday "Face The Nation." "First, I offer my deepest condolence to the families of four sons, brave hero sons that died protecting us. Without their sacrifice this nation would be vulnerable. They were serving this nation.

"They were – they will always be remembered mir families will always be remembered as best of America. I stand with them. I support them.

"They deserve utmost dignity and respect and privacy at this moment. That should have been afforded when this matter came to public but that had not been done – it had been made political football. Again, I request and I ask utmost dignity, respect and privacy."

Khan, whose Muslim U.S. soldier son, Humayun Khan, was killed in Iraq in 2004, engaged in political football with a blistering rebuke of then-candidate Trump, speaking with his wife at the Democratic National Convention for candidate Hillary Clinton. Khan also denounced President Trump again this week after the process of military and government condolences for four soldiers killed in an ISIS ambush in Niger came to light.

"We stood for the best of America, for the values of this country," Khan told Dickerson about his DNC appearance. "We spoke about the blessed documents and the traditions of this country."

Khan also waged a rebuke of Gen. Kelly, the White House chief of staff, who defended President Trump's delivery to the Gold Star widow of deceased U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson earlier last week.

"We spoke about the best citizen Kelly, former general, and we acknowledge his sacrifice and service and family service, but now as citizen of United States should have refrained from doing exactly same thing what he was complaining about," Khan told Dickerson.
