Democrats are weakening the U.S. by falsely signaling to our enemies we are divided and President Donald Trump is hamstrung in responding to Iranian aggression, according to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

"All they're doing is weakening our country by telling Iran that we are divided," McCarthy told Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y. "'The President doesn't have the support. The President doesn't have the power to act' – when he does."

McCarthy's comments to host John Catsimatidis came in rebuke to the War Powers Act resolution passed in the House late this week, reacting to the removal of U.S.-designated terrorist group leader Qassem Soleimani.

"It was a defense – the president has all the right to do it," McCarthy told Catsimatidis.

The fact it was a "concurrent resolution," according to McCarthy, was merely reiterating what is already decided by law: Congress has sole the authority to declare war.

"A concurrent resolution, which is non-binding, has no power whatsoever," he said, adding it equates to all but eight House Democrats – and three Republicans – "lying to the American people like they're doing something."

McCarthy's comments are much less provocative statement than one Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, made immediately after the U.S. briefing to the Senate this week, suggesting Congress is "emboldening Iran." That was a warning U.S. officials gave to senators, according to Lee.

"Probably the worst briefing I've seen – at least on a military issue – in the nine years I've served in the United States Senate," Lee told reporters. "What I found so distressing about that briefing, was that one of the messages that we received from the briefers was 'do not debate, do not discuss the appropriateness of further military intervention against Iran – and if you do, you will be emboldening Iran.'

"I hope that they'll come back and they'll say, 'No, you misunderstood us; we didn't say that at all,'" Lee added. "I wish I could believe that."

In myriad media appearances since, including Sunday, Lee has not repeated this claim he made about the briefers, which include the Secretary of State, acting Director of National Intelligence, acting National Security Adviser, and Defense Secretary.

Coincidentally, Iran's admission it had shot down a commercial airline the morning of the attacks on Iraqi airbases housing American troops, killing 176 innocent people, is now effectively hamstring Iran's leaders and roiling regime-change protests – not unlike the impeachment attempt against our president – according to McCarthy.
