McCarthy Denies 'Establishment' GOP Wants Trump to Fail

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy Friday rejected claims by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh that Washington's establishment lawmakers want President Donald Trump to fail.

"I don't happen to be one of those, and I don't know where one is," the California Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "Here in the House, if you take the stress on the productivity on what we have passed, it is one of the most productive Congresses. You look at human trafficking, getting all 12 appropriations, did you know the last time a Republican majority got all 12 appropriation bills, the iPhone wasn't invented."

The House also has passed legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, but the Senate has not passed such legislation, said McCarthy, so he admits he's also frustrated.

"I want to work with this president everyday, and he has been engaged," said McCarthy. "He has done everything in his power."

He also said he wonders why the Senate would want to have to pass legislation with 60 votes, when it takes a majority in the House.

"We just passed 12 appropriations bills in the House, where it took the majority of the House to pass it, but now you have 60 votes in the Senate," he said, and blamed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of making "nothing happen."

"He lets no appointments go through," said McCarthy. "He waits longer for any Cabinet, and then he slows it down to blame the Republicans. I wanted to see a government that works together. I know I can't get 100 percent of what I want ... I can find a way to compromise, but not a system that stops everything. That is when it is wrong. If it is good enough in the House, I think it should be good enough [in the Senate]."

McCarthy also on Friday accused blue states such as California and New York of playing politics with the tax plan Trump and congressional Republicans unveiled this week.

"I happen to be from California, and you want to look at the entire tax plan," said McCarthy. "When you look at it overall, you're going to have a tax-cut going forward ... is it fair that one state subsidizes another state? Because what happens in California, New York state, when you have a liberal government, they raise the taxes. They say have another state pay for it because we can deduct it. But when we look at the deductions we are giving, it will make us more competitive and look at it overall."
