Kerry Slow in Filling Empty Slots at State Department

By    |   Wednesday, 08 May 2013 06:03 PM

For all the travel he has made in his first few weeks as secretary of state, John Kerry still has yet to fill key slots in his department.

The Washington Post reported last week that "there is no new nominee to replace Thomas R. Nides as deputy secretary of state for management and resources and only one assistant secretary has been announced."

More importantly, with tensions growing in North Korea and parts of Africa, three assistant secretary slots who oversee Asia and Africa respectively are vacant and, reported the Post, "others are occupied by first-term holdovers who had expected to move on to other jobs by now."
