Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., on Sunday lamented the “political tinge” of congressional Democrats’ investigations of President Donald Trump in an attempt to shape the 2020 election.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” predicted Congress will be mired in Trump-focused probes for the next two years.
“There's a political tinge to all of this,” he said. “There's going to be two years of this. I hope we get something done besides investigations aimed at impacting the next election. We've got two years left. We can ride the anger or we can try to solve some problems around here. I hope we do the latter. “
Kennedy also dismissed the testimony before the House Oversight Committee of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.
“I don't know who is telling the truth,” he said, adding, “My personal opinion about Mr. Cohen is he has an ax to grind and most Americans will understand his checkered past. “
“If anybody prosecutes any of the crimes that Mr. Cohen alleged, they won't rely solely on Mr. Cohen's testimony,” he added. “I mean, to put it in common sense terms, I wouldn't take Mr. Cohen's check, and I bet you wouldn't either.”
