A furious White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Sunday lashed out at CNN's Dana Bash for asking her about her husband's tweets critical of President Donald Trump — charging the question was meant “to harass and embarrass.”
In a contentious interview on CNN's “State of the Union,” Conway was asked about her husband George Conway's tweets criticizing Trump.
“It's fascinating that CNN would go there but very good for the whole world to have just witnessed that it is now fair game … how people's spouses and significant others may differ with them,” Conway said. “I'm really surprised and gratified to see that.”
When Bash insisted “I would ask you that if you were a man,” Conway shot back: “No you would not.”
“You just brought him into this,” she railed. “This ought to be fun moving forward, Dana. Going to talk about other people's spouses and significant others because they either work at the White House or CNN? Are we going to do that?”
“It was meant to harass and embarrass,” Conway said of the question.
The exchange only heated up from there — even after Bash offered that the original question was meant in a “light-hearted’ way, asserting: “My point is that we don't often see somebody working for the president in a high profile position when their spouse is saying critical things about them. That is all.”
But Conway lashed back: “that is not true,” adding that her children were watching and “have already seen a double standard for their mother for two years.”
“I think that will be fascinating moving forward. Don't deny that,” Conway scolded. “I want you to clarify for the whole world wide audience and for me. It's quote difficult for whom, to have two adults what? Difficult for my children who are probably watching? They have already seen a double standard for their mother for two years. “
“It's not about gender,” she added. “There has been a different standard for me than other people. We bite our tongue plenty because I work for the people of this country, the United States government and the presidency and the president of the united States. There is plenty I don’t say.”
Later Sunday afternoon, Conway continued to attack Bash on Twitter:
